I have a vivid memory of my first day at Kindergarten. My teacher’s name was Mrs. Grimm. As we walked in the room, she placed a little baby chick-shaped name tag on my blouse and said, “You are my little chicken and I am your hen.” Now, probably in today’s world someone would read something creepy into that, but I read ‘pure love at first sight’ into those words, and my first days of school were glorious. One of our first art projects involved making daffodils out of yellow and green construction paper. I remember being so excited to “master” the art of folding the yellow petals just right and gluing them to the bright green paper. I was amazed at how real they looked, and I knew that my parents would think that I was an amazing artist! Every year since then, as Spring approaches and the daffodils appear, as if by magic, I delight in their beauty and am immediately transported to “my happy place”. Yet another sign that God exists and is truly great. Look for Him the next time you spot a daffodil!

What a great memory. Mrs. Grimm must have been quite a teacher, the way you write about her. Thanks for the trip back to an earlier time. Your post helped me to remember my kindergarten days with Miss Soley, my teacher way back when. I’ll think of this post next time I see a daffodil…
Thanks, Rich!
Scary that we can remember our Kindergarten teachers, but we can’t remember our grandchildren’s birthdays! 🙂
That is the first flower that appears in my otherwise weed-ridden yard, every year. They are beautiful!
Yes, and they do appear by magic, don’t they?!
