Cream Until Fluffy

A relatively new friend emailed me yesterday, and said that one of my posts reminded her of a wonderful old friend, the memories they had made together, and that she had lost touch with her over the years. Here is part of her story:

“One morning I had a call from Connie and she told me she was going to bake a German Chocolate cake and asked me what “cream until fluffy meant”.  I knew then that she needed help and told her to have another cup of coffee and I would be over as soon as I dressed our son.  I just knew she would not make it with such a difficult cake by herself.  My Mom made those almost every weekend and I always helped so I knew it was a hard cake to make. We finally finished it and had a good time making it together.”

This simple gesture of kindness grew into a kind of friendship that lasts a lifetime. Even when you never see that person again, your memories are the link that transports you back in time and for a moment, it is as if it were yesterday!

There are many people that come and go in our lives. Some of them make a life-long impression on our heart and mind. They are intended to. God works through these people. They, I believe, are the ones that fuel our spirit from age to age.

The same friend that shared this story with me, also shared this:

“I want to share with you how I was able to go through terrible times in our life as we have had many with our children being ill and losing our daughter. My prayer each night was, “Please God, give me the strength to get through tomorrow.” This was what helped me survive the loss of our daughter as I came through it with such a calmness that I didn’t know I had. God is truly great. Hope maybe this will help you and praying that it will help.”

And so it is that I want to thank my friend, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing her prayer with me. How generous of spirit, to have gone through such loss in life, yet through God’s grace alone, have the strength to share these stories.  You topped off my spirit tank. May God fill yours today, in the knowledge that you are so loved and your children are safe in His loving arms.

God’s Peace.
